3 Smartphone Apps for the Digital Scout

The Summit is going to be more wired and high tech than you can imagine, utilizing technology at every possible level from the submission of applications to mobile technology for providing programming, data, and individual schedules.

To fully take advantage of widespread mobile capabilities, we are working on a Summit app to roll in time for the 2013 National Scout Jamboree.

Speaking of awesome apps, here are a few must-haves that’ll come in handy when you’re getting your awesome on during the jamboree

Photography:

1 picture = 1000 words. So take pics on your phone, style them out, and share your jambo experience to your Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, and Flickr feeds. Instagram lets you do that.

All. At. Once.

And it’s free. Booyah!

Know your stars:

Stargazing is to camping what jelly is to peanut butter: inseparable. An astronomy app makes deciphering the night sky as easy as pointing your phone to the heavens. Try Star Walk ($2.99) or check out this list for more. Point your phone at the stars and receive real-time info on the stars, planets, and constellations you see.

Track your group:

The Summit is a BIG area, broken up by lots of rocks, trees, huge hills, and other stuff. So turn your phone into a real life marauder’s map and keep track of everyone’s whereabouts. One app to try: GPS Tracker ($0.99). Or you can dig around here for more info.
