2018 is going to be great!
Here are some of our new programs and activities for 2018:
2018 Summit Adventure Leadership Training (SALT)
SBR is proud to offer the Summit Adventure Leadership Training (SALT): an opportunity for Scouts and Venturers to enjoy the adventures available at the Summit Bechtel Reserve and learn how to be a champion marketer for your council!
This exclusive opportunity includes meals, transportation to and from Yeager Airport and the Prince Amtrak Station, and different programs across the Summit. Participants will arrive on Monday and head back on Friday morning.
Adult Adventure Weekend (AAW)
To All Adult Volunteers, Unit Leaders, and BSA Staff – THANK YOU – for helping youth experience the grand Adventure that is Scouting! No matter the location – Troop Meetings, Service Projects, Council Camps, National Jamboree, High Adventure Bases – youth are developing skills, confidence, and character in Scouting because of YOU!
Since preparing for their Adventures begins with YOU, we are excited to invite YOU to the first Adult Adventure Weekend at the Summit Bechtel Reserve June 20-24, 2018!
The focus is simple… it’s YOUR turn to ride the zip lines, climb rocks, shoot guns, ride bikes, fish, tour, eat great food, hang out with friends, and experience Adventures that are normally reserved for youth – Both at the Summit and in the New River Gorge!
But the Adventure won’t end there – Evening programs focus on the shared goal of providing more Outdoor Adventures for more Scouts in the future. Partnering with YOU – To generate energy for Adventures that increase membership, retention, and camping opportunities in YOUR Council!
SBR MTN Bike Trek
Deep in the Appalachian Mountains, the rugged beauty of the New River Gorge has long been a symbol of American ingenuity and sheer determination for the people who have worked this land. Get the feeling of exploration through backpacking combined with the freedom and exhilaration of mountain biking for an adventure like none other. Bring history alive as you roll through the Gorge seeking out ghost towns, hidden ruins and abandoned coal mines. Experience a seven-day/six-night “bikepacking” trek from the Summit Bechtel Reserve through the New River Gorge to the historical town of Fayetteville, WV connecting scenic old roads and purpose built flowy singletrack.
The ATV Trek
Rugged exploration has long been a deeply entrenched tradition in West Virginia and from that, the ATV has developed as an important West Virginia tool for both work and recreation. While ATVs may seem like a simple vehicle to operate, they require significant skill and stamina to operate safely. This course brings back that feeling of rugged exploration while teaching you to safely drive an ATV through the wilderness.
