STEM @ THE SUMMIT

Session

June 24 – June 30 2018

STEM @ the Summit is a fast-paced program that allows youth to explore the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) behind the outdoor activities and adventures that they love – and then use what they have learned. Supervised by professional scientists and engineers, Scouts will take advantage of the unique opportunities at the Summit Bechtel Reserve (SBR), to explore and understand the science behind high adventure, as well as take a behind the scenes tour of the sustainability program at the Summit. Specific activities will be
guided by the interests of the group.

WHO SHOULD COME?

Register for yourself, and make new friends. Register with a friend, and bring them. Or bring your whole crew!

Scouts will enjoy a unique experience, participating in a wide variety of exciting outdoor challenges, including rock climbing, mountain biking, zip lining, aquatics and more. They will be
treated to interactive learning activities detailing the Science Behind the Sport, and then test the practical application of their new knowledge with challenging activities. Scouts will learn
about the engineering behind many of the SBR adventure areas, and the extensive sustainability efforts underlying all aspects of the Summit Bechtel Reserve. Topics covered will include astronomy, biology, biomechanics, chemistry, ecology, engineering, physics, sustainability and more!

WHAT WILL I TAKE HOME?

A deeper understanding of how STEM is crucial in everything you do, new friendships with like-minded, outdoor adventurers, and amazing memories. You will fight gravity and win!

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

You must be at least 14 years old, not yet 21 years of age, and a registered Boy Scout or Venturer.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The fee for the sevenday course will be $410, which includes your tent, cot, food, activities, and fun!

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY ADULTS?

Send them to the co-located session “STEM-Tastic Scouting-Inspiration, Imagination, and Innovation” to learn how to bring the excitement of STEM to their own crews, troops and packs. Cost for the adult course is $530, and includes tent, cot, food, and 5+ days of instruction.
