July 31-August 6, 2022
So… you may have heard about the Orion Project at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in 2021. We wanted to create a special event to help fill the gap of postponing the 2021 National Scout Jamboree. Well, the Orion Project came and went and…. It was a huge hit. Every single unit who attended said that they’d recommend SBR to another unit. Additionally, we’ve received a lot of requests on if we’re doing the Orion Project again? While we had planned on this event being a one time program, we thought that if there was enough interest, we’d bring it back again in 2022.
The Orion Project is a seven-day overnight program that will give Scouts free reign of the Summit. The name of the game is adventure, and with so many great opportunities for BMX, skateboarding, mountain biking, zip lines, canopy tours, challenge courses, climbing, shooting sports, whitewater rafting, and fellowship with Scouts from across the nation, there’s lots to experience and choose from. Open to all members of Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouts and Exploring.
Adult leaders and youth participants pay the same fee.
Open to Members of Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouts and Exploring ages 13+ and their Leaders. Limited to the first 300 registered participants. Bonus: Qualifies for the BSA Triple Crown and Grand Slam High Adventure Awards.
Registration closes June 30, 2022
In September 2021, the National Office of the Boy
Scouts of America announced a program surcharge for units attending National
High Adventure Bases in 2022.
Due to circumstances surrounding operating costs
during COVID 19 and rising expenses related to program operation, the BSA is
notifying registrants scheduled to attend a NHAB in 2022 of a program surcharge
of $50 per participant.
This fee will offset the additional costs associated
with operating High Adventure Bases in accordance with CDC guidelines and
anticipated federal mandates for testing workers and staff. Additionally, expenses related to insurance,
vessel charter fees, seasonal staff wages, food and fuel have increased
significantly.
The fee will be included in your registration/payment
information and will be due with the last payment. For 2023, these costs will be included in the
base registration fee.
The program surcharge will enable HAB’s to provide a
high quality experience for our youth.
This is a seven-day/six-night program running Sunday to Saturday. It consists of half-day introductory level experiences at each of the nine Summit high adventure venues: BMX Biking, Skateboarding, Shooting Sports, Archery, Climbing, Canopy Tours, Mountain Biking, Challenge Course/Zipline, Waterfront Activities.
In addition, each group will experience the rapids of the world-famous New River, have the chance to ride The Big Zip – our 3⁄4-mile zip line.
Each night (Monday-Friday), we will open the Scott Summit Center for activities, fun and socializing. The Scott Summit Center incorporates small versions of our adventure sports venues and we are planning special events for the Orion Program Participants: think shows, Appalachian activities and special guests.
The Orion Project will be the pinnacle of adventure in 2021!
