Amenities for Jambo staff are better than ever

Staff members for the 2017 National Jamboree will enjoy many improvements in their accommodations, amenities and dining to help make the staff experience more pleasant than ever before.

After you receive your tent assignment at check in, you will be shuttled to the subcamp where you will be staying.  Three people will share each four-person tent, so each staff member will have more space than at the last Jamboree.

In addition, the services supporting the Jamboree’s hard-working staff members have been improved. This year, all the showers have solar water heaters, so the hot water will actually be hot and not just room temperature. A laundry service will provide 24-hour turnaround at a modest price; drop off and pick up will be at Base Camp Echo headquarters.

The U.S. Postal Service trailer will sell stamps and accept outbound mail.  Inbound mail will be picked up in a tent next to the Base Camp Echo headquarters.  Keeping your smartphone charged will be easier, because the Jamboree has added more charging points.  There also will be more transportation options to get to job sites and the Welcome Center.

The staff dining system also has received some upgrades. A new gluten-free option will be available in addition to vegetarian, Halal and Kosher options.  General dining options and grab-and-go lunches also have been improved.

A paid snacking/dining option called Chat ‘n Chew will be located north of the dining hall in a gravel field.  It will function like a coffee shop in the morning, serving coffee, pastries, and breakfast food; at lunch it will switch to snack bar fare, such as burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, hoagies, Philly cheesesteaks, fries, fried pickles, soft serve ice cream and soda.  For dinner, Chat ‘n Chew will serve a different special meal each day, and reservations will be required at least one day in advance.  You also will be able to reserve space at Chat ‘n Chew your team to hold a dinner meeting or a recognition dinner.

Chat ‘n Chew will be a great place to go to relax and wind down from the stresses of the day.  Each table will have a power strip, so you will be able to plug in all your electronics and let them charge while you eat or post about your day.  With a computer display running at Chat ‘n Chew, you also will be able to see what’s happening in the world outside of the Jamboree.
