Dave Alexander

In his monograph, Dave Alexander shares how important it is to him to live his life according to Scout Oath, the Scout Law, and the Scout motto. He credits many of the successes in his personal and professional life to the lessons Scouting taught him.

Professionally, Dave is the founder and managing member of Caljet, the largest independent motor fuels terminal in the Southwestern United States. In addition to his dedication to growing his business, over the years Dave has followed his passion for competing in triathlons around the world, and in total he has competed in 287 races in 37 countries.

That same passion inspired Dave to fund the creation of the Multisport merit badge, which Scouts can earn by learning about athletic competitions that feature a combination of two or more sports, such as triathlon (swimming, biking, and running), duathlon (running and biking), aquathlon (swimming and running), and aquabike (swimming and biking).

“Multisport has been a major part of my life,” Dave says. “The people I have met through triathlons are multifaceted, and they tend to be very successful in their lives. I would like to see more young people involved in multisport because of what it did for me in my life and what I’ve seen it do for others.”

To ensure everyone has the same opportunities he has had to grow through triathlons, Dave continues to work to bring triathlons and other multisport opportunities to Scouting America local councils, Scouting America high-adventure bases, and Scouting throughout the world.

Why I give...

“I love Scouting. Some of the most important lessons of my youth came to me through Scouting.”
