Summit Bechtel Reserve Hunter
Education Certification Program
The Hunter Education Certification Program at the Summit Bechtel Reserve provides Scouts and Scout leaders the opportunity to earn their official Hunter Education Card while participating in any of our summer programs.
The course is held at the Crafton Sportsman Complex (Action Point) in Hunter’s Hall and includes hands-on opportunities to shoot Laser Shot in our state-of-the-art virtual shooting range at the Crafton Skills Center.
Before Arriving On Site
Register Online
Visit the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) registration site (link below) and sign up for the course that matches your arrival date at SBR.Complete the Online Course
Once registered, go to WVDNR.gov and complete one of the five approved Hunter Education Courses.Four of the courses have a small fee.
The WWW.NRAHE.org course is free.
Note: You must access the course through the West Virginia DNR website to receive proper credit.
Bring Your Field Day Voucher
After passing the online course, bring your Completed Field Day Voucher with you to SBR to participate in the in-person Hunter Education Certification Class and final exam.Take a photo of your voucher on your phone as a backup.
Attend the On-Site Course
Classes are held Wednesdays, 6:00–9:00 p.m.
Location: Joe Crafton Hunter’s Hall, Action Point.
Earn Your Certification
Upon completion, participants will receive:West Virginia Hunter Education Card (recognized in all 50 U.S. states, plus Mexico, Canada, and the United Kingdom)

If you are attending Scout Camp or Summit Experience during Summer Camp and wish to earn your Hunter Education card, please register for the course corresponding to your arrival date listed below.

- June 7, 2026: REGISTER FOR JUNE 10TH
- June 14, 2026: REGISTER FOR JUNE 17TH
- June 21, 2026: REGISTER FOR JUNE 24TH
- June 28, 2026: REGISTER FOR JULY 1ST
- July 5, 2026: REGISTER FOR JULY 8TH
