Veterans’ Appreciation Day 2016

Attention Veterans!

In an effort to strengthen Boy Scouts’ Duty to Country, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has teamed up with several veterans organizations, including The West Virginia National Guard, Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Wounded Warrior Project, to host the 2nd Annual Veterans Appreciation Day at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve.

The event consists of two segments, first a day filled with competitions of invited participants from our Veteran Non-Profits, United States Armed Forces members and local Boy Scouts who will compete in events testing their wheelchair adeptness, coordination, and endurance. The activities are designed to give veterans a fun way to celebrate their service while enabling Scouts to gain even more appreciation and respect for veterans and their families. Second, there will be an evening concert and is open to ALL veterans, United States Armed Forces members, and their families. Exhibits, food vendors, and kid activities will also be available in the stadium.

Concert – in the AT&T Summit Stadium. John Michael Montgomery has been secured for the headline entertainment and with 15 hit singles including “Letters From Home”, is sure to be a crowd favorite. Also Performances from the 249th Army WV National Guard Band and other local artists.

Vendor Village – there will be vendors from the community selling food and other pieces. Also informational booths for different Veteran Non-Profit organizations.

Sustainability Treehouse – this 126-foot tall ADA accessible treehouse is 100 percent sustainable, producing its own energy, collecting water and processing its own waste. It acts as The Summit’s central educational facility in sustainable living practices.

CONSOL Energy Bridge – at nearly 800-feet, this wing-tip bridge provides breathtaking views of the valley between Action Point and the Paul R. Christen High Adventure Base.

Kids Activities – assortment of activities for kids will be available in the stadium area.
