John D. Harkey Jr.

Scouting was a natural fit for Eagle Scout John D. Harkey Jr. He has a love of adventure that Scouting enhanced. Today, John still possesses an adventurous spirit with activities such as flying, mountaineering, skeet shooting, motocross, and horseback riding. He has also continued his involvement in Scouting, actively working with his local Circle Ten Council and volunteering to oversee food service refreshments for 40,000 Scouts at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree.

When he’s not pursuing his next adventure activity, John is an entrepreneur and philanthropist with interests in early stage biotech, gene therapy, animal health and pet products, oil and gas, and restaurants.  He serves on several boards including the University of Texas, the State Fair of Texas, and, for many years, the Baylor Healthcare System. He received his bachelor’s in business honors and his juris doctor from the University of Texas. He then went on to earn an MBA at Stanford.
