Participants begin their shooting experience at the far eastern portion of The Barrels at the covered Jack Link’s Scout Pistol Range. All participants receive instruction in basic pistol safety, skills, and techniques. The covered pistol range uses 9 mm and .22-caliber pistols with 30 firing positions at a distance of 50 feet, including a paper target area and a popper target area.

The Summit Bechtel Reserve is also home to the National Scout Jamboree and the Paul R. Christen National High Adventure Base.
