Adventure Program Offers Exciting Opportunities

The Jamboree’s adventure program will be really exciting this year, with several different activities including canopy tours, zip lining, rock climbing, rafting, shooting sports, and much more — all staffed by over 1,400 volunteers.

Some of the activities will require advance signup, while others will require tokens. For some of the more popular activities there will be constantly updated displays at the Scott Center, Jamboree HQ, the Mountain Biking Center and a fourth location still to be determined.

You will also be able to find the wait times on the Jamboree app.

All the facilities at the Jamboree are world-class and use top-of-the-line equipment. For example, the canopy tours are the world’s biggest in terms of total mileage. The 48 canopy zip tours and eight canopy skill stations have a total length of 28,750 feet (5.45 miles). The challenge courses are No. 1 in the world for number of courses in one location. Summit has two action point courses and four adventure valley courses, which will be staffed in part by 50 Order of the Arrow volunteers.

The rock climbing facility is No. 1 in the world for an outdoor man-made facility. It has 125 climbing stations, 100 bouldering stations, 42 rappelling stations and six leap-of-faith stations.

The U.S. Army Special Forces are bringing in 10 Special Ops personnel to do some special climbing programs.

The mountain biking course is especially impressive, as it is the No. 1 purpose-built facility in the world and No. 3 for total mileage. It has 36 miles of trails, three jump courses, three pump courses, two skill courses, nine rescue trails and several others for a total of 50 different trails.

The BMX facility is the world’s second largest, in terms of outdoor square footage of facilities. The skate assessment area is 12,500 square feet, and the Skate plaza is 38,793 square feet. The speed and style arena, table top jumps and freestyle track are 20,000 square feet each. The BMX pump track is 3,000 square feet, the downhill track and the flat race track are 40,000 square feet each, and the BMX assessment area is 13,500 square feet. The mountainboard track is 60,000 square feet, the BMX dual track is 11,009 square feet, and finally the BMX jump track is 14,163 square feet. These all add up to a total of 273,672 square feet of track. The skate beginners area is 10,225 square feet, the intermediate area is 16,425 square feet, and the skate bowls area is 9,200 square feet, for a total square footage of 103,993.

The shooting range is No. 3 in the world for number of shooting opportunities. There will be 79 sporting clay stations, 50 trap stations, 20 five-stand stations, 60 rifle stations, 20 pistol stations, four steel challenge stations, 512 village airsoft targets and 588 jungle airsoft targets, for a total of 1,333 total unique shooting opportunities.

The archery range is the third largest in the world for total shooting opportunities. It has 60 static stations, 36 sporting stations, 10 long distance stations and 10 sporting arrow (moving) stations for a total of 116 archery stations.

Finally, rafting will be on the New River, which is one of the most popular spots to raft in America. There will be 450 spots to launch/exit on the upper New River and 150 spots on the lower New River.
