Veterans Appreciation Day 2017

The Third Annual Veterans Appreciation Day was last weekend here in Fayette county to show support for those who sacrificed their lives for the U.S.

We had a whole host of activities and events out here during the day. We ran a normal Visitor Day from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and extended free Action Passes to US Service Members/Veterans and their families. We also brought in some inflatable bounce houses and slides for the kids to enjoy in front of the Scott Visitor Center.

To make the day really special though, we wanted to have concert in the evening for all attendees to enjoy. We had Cross Town Traffic out for the opening act. They are a band based out of Elkins, WV with some members actually currently serving in our Armed Forces. Then in the evening we had country music star Darryl Worley! He made for a memorable evening with awesome tunes and a wide range of crowd engagement. He did a meet and greet before the show started and even stayed for 2 hours after the show ended to take photos with the fans until the sun went down.

To check out some of the fun we had on Saturday, here is a link to our event photo album

Gary Hartley the Director of External Relations for the Summit Bechtel Reserve. He said the event is designed to educate  the scouts on what it means to serve and pass down that knowledge to future generations.

“The people who have served our country have just given a tremendous amount to our country and this is our way of showing and giving it back to them that we really do appreciate their service and what the have done. We are very appreciative of that we also want to make sure that we instill those values in the next generation that’s why its important for us to get the veterans  out here with the scouts and hopefully they will pass along to the next generation,” he said.

We want to again thank all our men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces, without your sacrifice we would not be where we are today.

We hope that everyone that came out enjoyed their time here on Saturday and look forward to seeing everyone back for our next event!
